Mooresville High School Bands

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is made up mostly of Seniors, and selected Juniors/Sophomores. This Band performs mostly Grade V and VI Repertoire. In addition to working on scales, etudes, theory, and basic musicianship, the Wind Ensemble will devote most of the first quarter to preparing the music needed for Marching Band. The second quarter, students will prepare music for the Fall and Winter concerts. In the Spring, the ensemble performs at Music Performance Adjudication (MPA), a Spring Concert, and the Graduation Ceremony.

In the fall, students that elected to march are required to attend weekly Marching Band rehearsals and performances after school. Students that elected to not march will be given a weekly assignment (playing test or essay).

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is made up mostly of Juniors, Sophomores and selected Seniors. This Band performs mostly Grade IV and V Repertoire. Concert Band

The Concert Band is made up mostly of Freshman. This Band performs mostly Grade III Repertoire. In addition to working on scales, etudes, theory, and basic musicianship, the Concert Band will devote most of the first quarter to preparing the music needed for Marching Band. The second quarter, students will prepare music for the Fall and Winter concerts. In the Spring, the band performs at Music Performance Adjudication (MPA), a Spring Concert, and the Graduation Ceremony.

Percussion Techniques Class (Fall Semester Only)

This class is made up of 9th through 12th grade percussionists. In addition to working on scales, rudiments, etudes, theory, and basic musicianship, the percussion class will accompany the other bands on the fall and winter concerts. The percussion class may also perform as either a percussion ensemble or indoor drum line at various venues. Students are required to attend weekly Marching Band rehearsals and performances after school, and the concerts.
